Congratulations on your engagement and thank you for visiting my journal!

As a person dedicated to taking photographs, writing (or even speaking) about myself and what I do can be hard. I like to think that my photographs speak for themselves, but I also understand that there are so many talented wedding photographers out there to choose from. So I decided to take a minute to expand upon my bio, and give more detail on what Chelo Keys Photography is all about!

First…

I am a wedding photographer focused on artistic and candid moments, and based out of Bloomfield, NJ. I travel anywhere/everywhere, and I shoot both film and digital.

A little background…

Photography is my full-time vocation and I will always be a photographer from head to toe. I started by shooting film in the 90’s and I focused on photojournalism and street photography. At the time, and as a girl from the bronx, a career in photography seemed out of reach. But through luck and determination I landed a little job managing a photo studio and designing wedding albums. I just wanted to work with photographs all day long.

Preparing beautifully printed wedding photographs for albums solidified my love for wedding photojournalism, and after building a following through through a small portrait business I decided to dive into weddings in 2008.

Personal…

I am a mom and when I’m not shooting or editing I am probably sewing a costume, watching thomas and friends for the millionth time, or helping with math homework that I secretly have trouble with too. I love to cook and I love to travel. I also have experience in social work and teaching which has brought me a well-rounded approach to working with people and children.

Style…

Photojournalism and LIGHT is at the heart of what I do as a wedding photographer. I keep my eyes open for fleeting moments. I look for opportunities to get creative in my storytelling while focusing on where the light falls. I like to be a fly on the wall but I also like to help people feel at ease so that they can enjoy themselves- I say this as a camera-shy person myself.

Editing Style…

A big part of my style is not only how I shoot, but also how I edit. I prefer to take a minimalist approach to editing that brings out the light and the moment in each photograph. Knowing that printed photographs are meant to last 100 years or more, it’s important to me that the photographs I take and how they are presented will stand the test of time.

Film Wedding Photography…

For all you artists out there, I shoot both film and digital! My shelf of film cameras is overflowing. The click of the shutter and the sound of advancing to the next frame brings me so much joy. I love supporting my local film lab. I love being able to look at the light in a room and determine my exposure and approach without the crutch of the LCD screen.

Personality and Connection…

It’s true that there are many creative and talented people to choose from in the field of wedding photography. I am a full-time photographer in the suburbs of NYC and the competition is intense! However, I am proud of the work I am producing year after year, I am proud of my quiet ways, and I am proud of my determination and devotion. I’m proud of my work because it’s genuine. My best personality is the one that is behind the camera- the artist that works to creating images and document moments.

Whew. That’s all for now. But allow me to come back and fix typos and add more as needed. It’s hard to encompass everything I do with words, but I hope you will take a look through the galleries and of course feel free to contact me about your wedding day.

Thank you ~ I look forward to sharing my love of photography with you.
